How about some sticky topics in the help section for "how to" instructions for installing various plug-ins and scripts, and you can lock the thread to avoid having "too much" information?

Not necessarily. Just specific topics in help, as a sticky, and locked. Mainly to prevent having to read through pages of posts that do not relate entirely to the original post. To help avoid confusion, etc.

There are so many scripts and plug-ins though. Another index may be better just to keep things orderly.
Then you can add different install plug-in topics to that index.

Basically, all I am asking for is a few simple posts, that are stickies, and locked, that explain how to load scripts and "basic" plug-ins, (no need for a multitude of posts for this - just cover the different operating systems). It's just a simple suggestion, will always be available for new users to find, and it would eliminate duplicate postings.

A few pinned are fine but why lock them ?
all the new 3 pinned are also locked, i believe should be a very good reason to prevent questions comments and feedback by locking topics

How about 7 - 8 pages of continuation of off-topic discussion on a thread that is totally non-related to the original post? It has a tendency to cause more confusion than necessary, IMHO.

I'm just making suggestions, but I've been stumped a number of times reading posts that suddenly become something else. I've even participated in such posts, so it's not like I am pointing fingers, just clarifying that instructional posts don't need a long continuation of discussion if they are solely for instructing. One can always create or open a new post on the subject if they have questions.

Again, just suggesting...

I think more stickies is a good suggestion. Everyone is welcome to create some how-to's on various topics and we will get 'em stuck. I guess there might be some Q&A's that deserve to be stuck, as well. Please feel free to request specific thread be sticky'd.

Another good idea would be to put together all the resources we can find that relates to scripting; Script-Fu, Python, plug-in coding and such. A single sticky thread, where we can post links to resources would be a nice start. Info on scheme coding, python coding and how it relates to GIMP scripting and plugin-writing, all in one place.

This kind of thing could be done on a variety of topics. We would all need to contribute to making to happen.

At first, I thought you meant a FAQ type of thing.
I'd be willing to help out if you guys want to make some how-to stickies.

Like: How to...
-Install python on Windows
-Remove a background
-Fix docks
-Upload an image
-Set up pressure sensitivity.
-etc.

I like the idea of a Python-fu setup for Windows sticky. =)
