For this topic I'd like to propose the image posted on Gimp-chat by Akros for a different topic: colour stretching.
Akros wrote: This photo was posted by Scribblemacher on the web.
I consider it a challenge for photo manipulators.
How to get rid (as far as possible) of the aura and bluish colour tendency?
Obviously, it's the first task which is difficult

Because it's a challenge for all of us, I post here my trial, using various gimp native features; not a very good result, but somehow a small enhancement in that direction.

That's a actually challenge and for me even more. But I had to do my try. I must say that I started my try from the Dinasset's one.

A lighter vision, Issabella, why not?

Akros, you still have to show us what was your result (I remember you said -in the other topic- that you applied many tools to come out with an acceptable outcome; where is it?)

Dinasset excellent! :jumpclap :clap
The improvement is clearly visible. :bigthup
There is still a stubborn bluish aura, but now much more timid.

I had made an attempt in this picture, but not saved. Some time later with the topic: color stretching, I remembered it and went looking for it on google.

It would be interesting to see other attempts in this picture, a good challenge.

:hoh hummm

Wow Issabella! It was very good and now even you can see people's faces. :coolthup :clap
The bluish remains, but I think the owner of this photo would be pleased with this result. :hi5

I found it strange, the image is sent by Issabele Jpg but got 3:18 MB larger than the other two posted before.

Dinasset, I'll need courage to try again fiddle with this picture.
I think I'll start with the image posted by Issabella. :rofl ;)

Thank you Akros, I wasn't pratising the method that Dinasset was. I only wanted to try to be able to see people set at the background. I transformed Dinasset's outcome, not the original one. I don't know why any filter o transformation I do on a pic, it gets more weight. I don't know how to avoid that.

Dinasset, your last outcome, in my opinion, is clearer. I think you've done a good outcome. :clap

Dinasset, Compared to the original image is an improvement for sure.
But it seems to have gotten a bit matte.
The reduction of the brightness, to reduce the blue aura generated this side effect.
I still prefer your first result was very good. :coolthup

Issabella I love sharp images. Contrast and brightness make all the difference.
I think you're on that path, but it is necessary to pay attention to the final quality.
Notice the legs of the man on the left. :hoh
There is much loss of information there.
Around the man in the blue (right and left) mantle, you can view a trail of brush. :gaah
You're getting good lighting to recover the original image, but at the expense of adding a lot of noise and pixelation.

I would like to achieve good lighting as the of thy result. :bump
That would be another challenge.

Akros, You are absolutely right. In my country it said "ignorance is very daring" that happens to me. I'll try to learn from you both and be more careful next time. Thank you. :tyspin

Issabella we're in the same boat!

Gurus are here Dinasset the ofnut the paynekj the patdavid and as many more.

This exchange of results beyond fun is also instructive.
I'm not only learning from the successes of those who post here on GC perfect results. But also with less happy results and also from my own mistakes.

So your results are always very welcome and important in my learning! :tyspin ;)

Just never makes a mistake the one who never ventured.

The more I looked the image, had more details to fix.
As a professional lazy, I preferred not continue much longer editing this picture.
It would be interesting to find a good technique or filter to correct this problem in an image.

Isn't local contrast enhance (eg USM[60,0.2]) can reduce aura/fog?

I do not understand what would be (USM [60,0.2]) ...
But I tested the "Local Enhance contrast" in G'MIC filter and voila! :yes
Amazing results in just seconds!

okyl168 :tyspin
You've found a great solution! :hi5 :clap
:bowdown Ave okyl168! :bowdown

USM[60,0.2] = Unsharp mask with radius 60 and amount 0.2

a new image of a group
it's a group of children, so I could have chosen also the section for children, but I prefer to put it here
it's a sort of "childrens' picnic"

here the original image
