Hello everyone,
Image

It has been brought to my attention,
by our trusty and recently appointed moderator Rod,
that GEGL may require it's own spot on the board index.
•••
The idea is to create these 2 dedicated spots on the board for GEGL.

GEGL plugins for Gimp-2.10

GEGL plugins for Gimp-3.0.

Are the names sufficient?
Would you like more,
Perhaps a 3rd entry?
What do you think?

Let us know and we'll set up these additions to the board index ASAP.

No need for that, The best thing to do is just GEGL without 2 and 3 separated.

I agree with these 2 ;)
GEGL plugins for Gimp-2.10
GEGL plugins for Gimp-3.0.

If you do that I won't know where to post. As my plugins work on both 2.10 and 3.0

maybe we shouldn't even add it because of that confusion.

The only difference between GEGL on 2.10 and GEGL on 3 is

1. GEGL converts colors 100% accurate on GIMP 3 but not 2.10, that is why color pickers have different values on plugins of mine like Ocean's Surface

2. GEGL on 3 has an extra blend space called rgb-non-linear

3. Official Bevel, Official Inner Glow, GEGL Styles, Local Threshold and Shuffle Search only ship on GIMP 3 but they can be compiled manually for 2.10.

4. 2.10.38 still has the bug where changing composers crashes GIMP in GEGL syntax only.

5. Denoise-DCT still has that long solved bug on 2.10 where it crashes when applied on pixel size canvases

Other then that they are 99% the same, it doesn't make sense from my perspective to have GEGL 2.10 and GEGL 3.0.

The counter argument would be python and script fu exclusive GEGLing in GIMP 3, but I don't do that and one can just label it a GIMP 3 plugin here viewforum.php?f=33

If the board comes into existence I will use it to the best of my ability even if it is divided into two categories.

How about this. The board will have two sub-sections

1. GEGL filter plugins

2. GEGL Python, Script-fu, Batcher and more

For me it would be enough to create one additional category: GEGL Plugins.

Thanks for the feedback you guys!
Any additional feedback you might have
in regard to this proposal would be greatly appreciated.

It seems to me,
that contrast's suggestion,
would be the most likely additions added to the board index,
if any are added.

If adding them muddles things exponentially,
I wouldn't want this to happen.

Things can be a bit bewildering enough as it is,
no sense making it worse?

Are these additions necessary?
Just one new addition?
What do you think?

I lean towards the simpler option of just having one new GEGL thread...

Well it was brought to my attention that Slime did not work in Gimp-2.10. Or maybe I miss understood the author?
I suspected this new board would ,
1) Bring more attention to GEGL
2) Let users know if a GEGL plugin worked in 2.10 or not. So they wouldn't think it was not working at all as it would still work in Gimp-3.0.

Thank you Wallace for considering this. I'll keep things on the Mod board for now on. :)

In that case i suggest just a single GEGL board to make it...
1) Easier to find them by going directly to that board.
2) Bring more attention to GEGL itself.
3) A spot for GEGL news and information.
4) A single place to add GEGL plug-ins.

Does that sound good?

I am done thinking and have decided it is not right for a GEGL board

The best option is to modify "Gimp Scripts and Plugins" and rename it to "Gimp scripts, plugins and GEGL filters"
no need for a GEGL subsection. All that matters is that GEGL is referenced as a distinct type of plugin

I entirely concede on the request for a GEGL board or subboard. Please consider going forward with my renaming suggestion (if you want) and perhaps only do it only in the GIMP 3 section because I prefer my users use 3.0 over 2.10 (even though my plugins incidentally work in 2.10) Remember once again, the nature of my plugins is what allows them to work in both 2.10 and 3.0, its not a like I'm putting additional effort.

Thanks for all the feedback!
I truly appreciate your efforts.
:jumpclap

The board index will remain as it is for now.
So there will be no additions to the board.
Thanks again for all the suggestions and for your participation with this query.
Please feel free to comment,
and or offer any further suggestions you might have in regard to this matter.

My pending request is that The description of `Put Gimp-3.0 Scripts and Plugins Here` can be changed to "Put Gimp-3.0 Scripts and Plugins and GEGL filters here" and it can be renamed to "Gimp-3.0 Scripts/Plugins/GEGL Filters"
