That could be so much more stylish, I'd like to see it implemented with JQuery, like what iConvertIcons did.

I am currently trying to create an extension for this uploader in Extension Builder 2.6 (for web builder 7 program.)
Then i could style it however i needed. =)

Going to be a lot of work though.I am hoping to get some help from the extension builder guru's at web builders website.A lot of code is involved.

Thanks for sharing the link Rob.

Thanks for all the great suggestions!!

I've decided to build the site utilizing Wordpress, which has evolved to the point to where I'm able to realize my vision for Gimp Scripts.

My goal was to put together a site were GIMP users are able to upload their favorite GIMP scripts with a simple and easy to use form. Downloads are organized and easy to find, with a searchable, SEO'd website.

The uploaded script will be added to the script’s database, with a unique post to the script’s section of the website. That page will contain script details, such as the script author(s) name, license type, website/support link, along with a brief description of the operation of the script.

If you are an author, maintainer or supporter of the script, you’ll be able to answer questions and give script support right from the uploaded script’s individual support page or you can leave a link back to another support website.

At present, all submissions will be held in a moderation queue for a brief time period before being posted live. This allows a chance to review the script to ensure it has the proper license for distribution by Gimp Scripts. In the future, trusted users will be able to submit a script from the front end and have it automatically added to the database and a support blog page created, without moderation or any other work on the backend. I haven't gotten to that point yet, as it will take quite a bit more coding, but at least I have a game plan. :)

The site is up now and I'd like to get some feedback on the look, feel and functionality. Please take a look and let me know what you think. I'm open to all suggestions for improvement. And please let me know if you find any bugs.

http://gimpscripts.com

Thanks!!

Site looks cool Tux. Wish I was a programmer, but I'm just a poser at best. lol

Mark (VAbirdy) did create a Script for me many years ago of something that I concocted at the time; it actually made it to the Foundry which is cool. Not sure if your site will link to other sites that hosts Scripts like the Foundry or the Registry. Still, you can't have too many resources. :)

Thanks Lyle. The site will allow the script submitter to link back to the originator site (unless it's a scam or spam site).

The problem I have with the registry is that it's a bit outdated and it can be difficult to find anything on there, which is one motivation for creating Gimp Scripts. Hosting a script on Gimp Scripts will ensure the script can be easily found with search engines like Google.

You don't have to be the author of the script or a programmer to submit a script that's been released under GPL, CC or as freeware. Those licenses explicitly give permission to share.

It's always nice to have alternatives. :cool

The site looks great. It might be a shock for some who are used to the rough-and-tumble of the registry site. :)

Thanks partha. I hear ya. :lol

The shock might be realizing that there could be a better way... :smiley2

Well, as I mentioned, you don't have to be the author of the script or a programmer to submit a script that's been released under GPL, CC or as freeware. Those licenses explicitly give permission to share.

I envision Gimp Scripts working in conjunction with Gimp Chat. Sometimes, scripts get posted here in the middle of threads, making them pretty tough to find. It's nice to have a place to put them that is a bit more organized.

I looked at http://gimpscripts.com/2011/10/aurora-logo/
but the scripts appears to be old :

"(script-fu-register
"script-fu-aurora-logo"
"<Toolbox>/Xtns/Script-Fu/Logos (MS)/Aurora Borealis..."
"

I tried changing the location...but I think there are other things "wrong". I'm about to go to bed so I don't want to go finding the problems now....I'm just leaving this post as a reminder to myself for later.

anyway, the site looks great and is quite easy to navigate. great job!

Thanks cecilia!!

You're right about that script. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. It was an old script that I just pulled off my hard drive for testing the site's functionality. Guess I hadn't tested it with Gimp 2.6. I went ahead and updated the script so that it actually works now. :hehe

By the way, you can comment on any script on it's main page on Gimp Scripts.

I need a little help with categories. Right now I have 4 categories of scripts.

Text
Filters
Renders
Utilities

What other categories of scripts should I include?

I've always suggested at the Registry, to have categories follow the GIMP menus. You can't go wrong, then.

I realise this is a feature creep request, but would it be possible to see what version of Gimp each of the scripts is known to work on? I'm just thinking ahead to if and when 2.8 gets released and the known incompatibilities with 2.6

Also, are you going to have a dedicated forum here on GimpChat to provide support for the inevitable "I've installed it but where is the menu entry?" type questions? (Perhaps that's another feature request? Force the author to be up-front about their script's menu position rather than having users dig around inside the script file.)

Perhaps Photography would be a good filter category?

Thanks. Those are good suggestions.

That's an interesting approach I hadn't considered. GIMP puts a lot of stuff under "filters".

I considered adding this as a category but there are quite a few scripts that would just fall under the general category of filters. It might be a good idea to pick out a few subcategories of filters and give them their own category.

Informational, as Saul suggested, would have a few subcategories as well. I guess I'm struggling between whether to keep it simple and group scripts under more general categories or be more specific and add a number of subcategories. I can see advantages both ways.

That's already a feature, paynekj. You specify the GIMP version and the OS platform the script is compatible with in the upload dialog. Clicking "details" on a script displays this..

Perhaps "Menu location" is an option that could be added to the upload dialog.

Each script has its own dedicated page where threaded comments are supported. An author, maintainer or anyone for that matter, can post questions and answers there.

Of course, anyone would still be able to post script questions (or upload scripts) here, no matter where they happen to get the script, just as is is now.

@GnuTux

category may give only a little help for search because are often overlapping
the same script may fit well in Colors, Enhancement, Light and Shadows, Photo and several others category, you will never know in which category may be listed

What is VERY important are TAGS

AS example ACE (OK is a plugin but imagine that was a script)
Contrast, Photo, Light and Shadows, Colors (it does modify the colors)...i suppose me and lylejk could even add "artistic" since can create interesting artistic effect...

I fear the subtitle of the website, "The Gimp Plugin Repository", may be confusing in terminology. A script is not a plug-in (though Script-fu itself might be considered a plug-in) and it appears the site is dedicated to scripts.

Also, in both the title and subtitle, "Gimp" is used; yet the proper name of the program is "GIMP".
